About Sargam Training

Sargam Training is a weekly all-levels vocal class offered in the Sacred Sound Lab. In Sargam training, you sing the seven tones (svaras) of Indian music. You learn exercises (paltas) in North Indian scales, which helps to train your ear, increase your range, and stabilize your voice (among other benefits!). Our sargam sessions end with meditative call and response singing.

Sacred Sound Lab Members receive access to curated replays in the Sargam Training Vault that lives in your Members Library.

Currently, a mesmerizing scale called bhairav ṭhāṭ is sung in sargam practice, in the key of B. The scale changes periodically.

In Sargam Training you will:

  • practice singing the seven svaras of Indian music
  • learn exercises (paltas) in North Indian scales (ṭhāṭs)
  • stabilize the voice
  • train the ear
  • sing in community

If you cannot make a session live, there is no need to notify us.

If you are no longer interested in attending, or if your schedule doesn't allow you to attend live, please unregister by clicking the link at the bottom of any of the weekly emails.
