3. śakti de bhakti de durgā mātā
chārõ or anderā hai, māyā mẽ khera hai
gyāna kā diyā mana mẽ jalā dījiye

āja merī ithanī-sī bāta māniye
give śakti (energy, power) give bhakti (devotion), Mother Durgā

Victory to Goddess Durgā, the ocean of compassion.
Wrathful and black Kālī (destroyer of Time) holds a half-skull offering of blood.
As Divine Mother, she supports this evolving world. Victory to the universal Mother!

vīra-mātā satya-prema-dātā
ambā mayī, jagan-mayī vīra-mayī
satya-prema-mayī
Mother of the universe, courageous Mother, giver of truth and divine love, you are the universe itself, you are the embodiment of courage, truth and divine love.

ramyaka-pardini śailasute
The most famous and complex piece of ecstatic Sanskirt poetry to Goddess Durgā in her form as Mahishasuramardini (Buffalo-demon slayer). Full of syllables that rhyme with one another, this poem describes Durgā’s epic battle with the buffalo-demon Mahisha, whom no god could defeat. Poem composed by Adi Shankaracharya, 7th Century C.E..
