The most famous and complex piece of ecstatic Sanskirt poetry to Goddess Durgā in her form as Mahishasuramardini (Buffalo-demon slayer). Full of syllables that rhyme with one another, this poem describes Durgā’s epic battle with the buffalo-demon Mahisha, whom no god could defeat. Poem composed by Adi Shankaracharya, 7th Century C.E..
